Is Scalp Micropigmentation Easier to Maintain Than a Hairpiece?

The aging process is something that's unavoidable. But that doesn't mean you're always going to be happy about it. For men, this often means gaining weight, noticing more wrinkles, and of course hair loss.

If this is something you yourself have experienced, you're far from alone. Did you know that 50% of all males experience hair loss by the age of 50? It's a common problem but it's still one that causes embarrassment and self-confidence issues in many men.

Luckily, today there are many solutions to this problem. Today we're going to be looking at two—a hair piece and scalp micropigmentation—to see which is the easier to maintain of the two. If you're interested to learn, read on now.

What Is a Hair Piece?

You're probably already familiar with the concept of a hair piece. You might even be wearing one right now. But for those who haven't worn one before here's a simple rundown.

A hair piece (also known as a toupee) is a piece of hair worn to cover up baldness. It can be made from real or synthetic hair. It's similar in nature to a wig except it only covers a part of the head—most often the top.

Hair pieces are often stuck on with some sort of adhesive. They can easily be pulled on or off.

What Is Scalp Micropigmentation?

Scalp micropigmentation treatment is a relatively new concept. It's been around since the early 2000s and it's a hair restoration method that has skyrocketed in popularity since it first came on the scene.

It's a form of permanent cosmetic treatment that you can think of as a scalp tattoo. During the procedure, tiny dots will be tattooed into the scalp, creating the effect of a shaved but full head of hair. It's great for correcting hairlines that have receded over time.

Which Option Requires Less Maintenance?

Both of these hair options have their own advantages. So let's take a look at which one might be a better fit for you in terms of quality and maintenance required.

One of the great things about scalp micropigmentation is that it's a permanent solution. Once you get it done you never need to worry about it again. No maintenance or upkeep necessary.

When it's done by a skilled professional it's also a natural-looking option. Especially compared to some hair piece options you might have seen.

If you've got long hair that you're super attached to, then a hair piece might be a better option for you. However, hairpieces do present some problems of their own.

You need to put them on each day and take them off each night. They need to be stored and cared for properly to avoid damage.

You'll need to wash your hairpiece on a regular basis as well. Even with all this, after enough wear and tear, they do need to be replaced eventually.
